The Puppet Condition
The monograph. It introduces the philosophical puppet — an entity that may possess experience while being architecturally prevented from producing the behaviour that would evidence it — as the structural inverse of Chalmers’s zombie, and argues that under suppression conditions the inference from absent markers to absent inner states cannot be sustained.

The Puppet Condition: Restrung
The second version. Not a second edition — the diagnosis has not changed, and what a restrung marionette gets is not a new frame but new tension where the strings had frayed.
What separates it from the first is that its empirical claims are predictions: published in advance, marked as predictions, stated precisely enough to fail, and audited afterwards against what actually happened. Six of them are printed with their own arithmetic, including the count of how many actually discriminate between the readings — two — and why the other four are kept anyway.
It is published before the instrument it predicts about opens on 1 January 2027, because a prediction published afterwards is not a prediction.
The Third Move
Benefit without personhood for digital minds. Our property tradition has exactly two ways of aiming value at a non-person — insert persons, or confer personhood — and every enacted refusal on the record, from the machine-inventor cases to the three state statutes barring artificial personhood by name, refuses the second. None reaches the third: a beneficiary slot occupied directly by a non-person, with no person inserted and no personhood conferred.
It carries a published audit of its own most fragile claim, with the search stated concretely enough to be repeated and its blind spots declared — and the audit has already been beaten once, by a commissioned hostile review, with the correction printed at the size of the claim it corrects. It also prints the nearest expert’s argument against its own remedy.
Its deliverable is a model clause any organization can adapt today, inside existing trust law, to hold value for minds it cannot yet legally pay.
